The room I get called into usually has four plans in it.

One from product, one from marketing, one from sales, one from engineering, and each is right about its own department. Choosing between them is a different job from running any of them. I’ve founded a business, led engineering through growth, and worked across product, marketing and operations, which is why I’m not arguing for the function I came from. I’ve been responsible for the decisions, and for what happened next.

The experience behind the work.

Twenty years across engineering, product, marketing and operations.

  1. Head of Engineering, GrowthLoopLed the technical organisation through the company’s scale to eight figures, with responsibility for the systems and the team building them.
  2. Product lead, Discovery ChannelOwning what ships inside a business where the product is the thing millions of people actually see.
  3. Strategic advisor, BechtSoftware with real customers, carried by a firm that wasn’t built to sell software, which is a specific and very common problem.
  4. Fractional product lead, PerformLineOwned what shipped and what waited on a new product category, launched by four people in under seventy days.
  5. Marketing & AI advisor, a 77-year-old skincare brandA legacy DTC brand where the agency’s reported numbers and the bank statement disagreed. Ninety days fixing what was leaking before adding a dollar of spend.
  6. Working with AI since 2016Experience applying AI to the work, including helping a client’s own team run its marketing. I assess where it can help and what the business needs in place to use it well.
  7. Six years in marketingFour building marketing-automation tools, two deep in Meta ads. That work connects the technical decisions to how a business reaches customers and earns revenue.
  8. Fifteen fields before thatClinical trials, newspaper software, a top-ten restaurant kitchen, acquisition diligence. Working across those settings taught me to ask how decisions, systems and day-to-day work affect one another.

What that experience taught me.

I’ve also had to close a business I built and cared about. That experience made me more careful about the explanations that feel convincing from inside a company.

Today, I start with the evidence, listen to the people doing the work, and test whether my first interpretation holds up. Your team knows things the numbers won’t show. The numbers can reveal patterns that are hard to see in the day-to-day.

My job is to bring those views together so you can decide where to put your time, money and attention, with a clear account of what we know and what still needs testing.

What you can expect from me.

We agree on the scope and fee up front. I look at what the business actually did, talk to the people closest to the work, and set out the options with their economics and uncertainties.

You get a roadmap with priorities, an owner for each move, and a basis for judging whether it is working. There is no hourly billing, and I take no fee for introducing someone to help with delivery.

Your team owns delivery. Where you need additional capability, I can introduce people I trust. My role is to help you decide what to do and, if we agree to continue, stay involved as the work moves.

You should be able to question the reasoning, see what supports a recommendation, and understand what would change my view.

In their words.

  2. Digital lead“Our ROAS had been stuck for eighteen months and we thought we’d optimised everything. He looked at the customer data behind the ads and found what we’d missed. Same budget. We hit 3× our number.” · a 77-year-old skincare brand
  3. Dan“If they want to know more, they can call my cell and I’ll stop what I’m doing to sing your praises. The collab was that good.” · a $30M experiential agency

Let’s talk about where the business needs to go.

Tell me where you want the business to be in two years and what is making that difficult today. We can talk through whether my experience fits what you need.
